RANT!

Holy cow, chapter 1 is finally finished! Whoop-dee-whoop! Before I say anything else, I just wanted to thank all you guys for the support you've given the comic thus far. My fans are pretty much the coolest people ever! As I said a few pages ago, this chapter ended up being a lot longer than I originally thought it would be. There were actually a couple of points along the way where I considered going ahead and cutting it off, but I couldn't find a good "finishing" scene before now. At any rate, I'm glad I ended up doing this way, because chapter 1 was really supposed to be about setting the scene, introducing (most of) the characters, and especially give the readers a clear idea of just how Faust ends up doing, y'know, what he's about to do.

As far as the updates for the next week or so is concerned, here's what I have planned: tomorrow I'm putting up a splash page (y'know, just a little "in between" page to lead up to chapter 2; nothing big); on Monday or Tuesday I'll have up the cover for chapter 2, and later in the week I'll post the first page of the new chapter. And after a lot of consideration, I've decided to cut the updates down to just one page a week, for the most part. I decided to do this for two main reasons: one, I've noticed that most of the precious few free time I have is spent on getting two updates done in a week, and not much else. Also, I have a sinking feeling that if I keep the story going as fast as it currently is, it'll eventually come back to bite me when I finally run out of ideas. That won't be good. Of course, there will be weeks where I'll probably get on a drawing high and get an extra page done early. In that case, I certainly wouldn't mind posting it early, but for the most part (until further notice), expect once-a-week updates.

After reading through the past comments I found a couple of questions that I feel I should go ahead and address. (I was kinda waiting for someone to give me the opening to do so, actually.) First, where does the story take place, and when? In the beginning, I definitely wanted to give the comic some sort of historical setting (perhaps in Germany), but then I decided, who am I kidding? I don't know enough about other cultures and older time periods to actually make a comic that's set in a specific time seem realistic, or accurate for that matter. Ergo, I decided to make the official setting of the comic in an alternate Europe of sorts. I love drawing 19th century fashion, so you can definitely see a lot of that in the clothing, and there's a lot of little things in the comic that were inspired by the 16th and 19th centuries. But against all that, there's also things like Faust's round house and Claire's outfit thing (both which I pretty much pulled out of my head) that seem very out of place.

The other question was regarding the disease that's been going around: just what is it? The disease is indeed influenza, but the silly little people in my story don't know enough to know that it in fact is a virus, not a disease. ;) Since influenza has, of course, been around for over 2,000 years, so the fact that none of these people know what the heck is going on gives another nod to what I said before, that the story does not take place in our little world.

Um...did I forget something? I certainly hope not. ^^;; Sorry for that rant. Again, I want to thank everyone who's supporting the comic, and I'll see you in the next chapter!
